Unlocking Confidence at 50: Cheryl Ellmore's Perspective on Aging and Personal Branding Through Photography Sessions

Turning 50 often marks a significant milestone in one's life—a moment shrouded in perceptions, expectations, and a reevaluation of self. I recently had the privilege of chatting with Cheryl, a vibrant 51-year-old, whose journey into her 50s has been a testament to empowerment, redefining perspectives, and embracing newfound passions.

Embracing the Power of 50

When you hit 50, you might expect it to feel old and can make you think about lots of stuff. But Cheryl, at 51, thinks differently. She finds it super cool and powerful, not old at all! With her children in college, Cheryl discovered solace in gardening and actively engaging in her granddaughters' lives.

I used to think that 50 was old, and now I think it's very powerful. And I feel young. I don't feel old. I don't feel like my grandparents. I am excited because I've got new hobbies. My children are now in college, so I'm gardening. I'm doing things that I never thought that I would do before. I have two granddaughters, I look forward to participating in things at their school. I am absolutely loving life.”- Cheryl

Professional Confidence and Personal Growth

The 50s bring along a surge of confidence, both professionally and personally. Cheryl, drawing from three decades of work experience, expresses a newfound assurance. This confidence doesn't merely stem from career achievements but transcends into embracing life's changes, marking a period of substantial personal growth.

“I am absolutely loving life! Professionally, I think I feel more confident than I ever have in all the 30 years that I have been working. So, I would say that 50s are doing really well.” - Cheryl

The Influence of Photography Sessions

Cheryl's journey is influenced by her friends' transformative photography sessions. Witnessing their stunning portraits reignited a desire within her to refresh her professional image. Motivated by the prospect of investing in herself, Cheryl eagerly anticipated her own session.

“I actually saw two of my friends, former colleagues that I had worked with, who posted about their session, and the photographs were just absolutely stunning. And for the first time in probably a very long time, I was really excited about having my photo taken. I think, professionally, it was time for me to update my professional persona, especially out on LinkedIn and other job sites. And I just really was looking forward to investing in myself and having some really strong photos of myself.” – Cheryl

Preparation and Experience of the Session

Admitting to last-minute preparations and apprehensions, Cheryl arrived at the photography session with a flurry of thoughts. However, the experience transformed her worries into comfort. Surrounded by options and guided support, the session passed seamlessly, alleviating her usual discomfort with being photographed.

“I'm going to be honest; I did not feel prepared coming into my session. I was texting Diana last night that I was doing last minute shopping. I was hoping to put together all the outfits that I could possibly think of. And then I got here, and all the stress went away. I had changes, I had options. And the whole day just felt like it flew right by. I've never been so comfortable in a photo shoot. I'm very self-conscious. I don't like having my picture taken. So, for me, this has just been an amazing experience and one that I would absolutely do again.”- Cheryl
