Motherhood & Baby
Some things change before you’re ready
It all goes a little faster than you think.
The waiting. The tiny details. The way they fit against you. The expressions you swear you’ll never forget.
Motherhood is full of moments that pass almost as quickly as you notice them. Portraits make right now something you can return to.
Maternity. Newborn. Baby. Motherhood.
Forever remembered in portraits.
What will we create?
The anticipation. The newness. The tiny details. The emerging personality. The connection. The beautiful chaos.
Something that looks like you. Something that feels like art.
A few things you might be wondering.
Babies have their own plans. Bodies change. Schedules shift. And sometimes you just don’t know what to expect.
That’s okay. Here are a few things that might make planning your photography session a little easier.
-
Most maternity sessions are photographed between 28-34 weeks, when your belly is beautifully defined but you’re still comfortable enough to move, pose and enjoy the experience. Every pregnancy is different, though, so we’ll choose the timing that feels right for you.
-
It’s best to book your newborn session before baby arrives, ideally during your second or third trimester. We’ll reserve space around your due date and finalize the actual session date once baby is here.
-
The sweet spot is around 10-14 days new. Those first few weeks are wonderful for capturing the tiny, sleepy details while babies still love being wrapped and curled up.
But there’s no expiration date on beautiful baby portraits. As they grow, we simply create something different — more expression, more connection and more of that emerging little personality.
Your baby doesn’t age out of being photographed.
-
We’ll plan what you wear together. I’ll help you choose clothing that photographs beautifully, works with the creative direction of your session and still feels like you.
For newborn sessions, simple usually works best. Soft textures, neutral tones and pieces that keep the focus on your baby and your connection photograph beautifully—but we can absolutely create something with more personality, too.
You don’t need to have it figured out before you book. That’s part of the planning.
-
That’s completely okay. Newborn sessions are never rushed, and we’ll follow your baby’s lead. There’s plenty of time for feeding, changing, soothing, snuggling—or simply waiting for them to settle.
And they don’t have to sleep for us to create beautiful portraits. Wide eyes, tiny stretches and all those unexpected expressions are worth remembering, too.
-
Absolutely. Your newborn session can include parents, siblings—or the whole family. We’ll create portraits focused on your baby, along with the connections that are already beginning to form around them.
Because sometimes the way you hold them is just as worth remembering as how tiny they were.
-
Most newborn sessions take about 2–3 hours, giving us plenty of time without watching the clock. We build in time for feeding, changing, soothing and plenty of snuggles along the way.
Baby sets the pace. We simply leave enough room to create around it.
-
You really don’t need to bring much. Pack the things you normally need for baby—extra diapers, feeding supplies, a pacifier if you use one, and a favorite blanket or meaningful item you might want photographed.
We’ll plan the rest together before your session, so you’ll know exactly what to bring and what can stay home.
-
Yes. I have a selection of wraps, blankets and simple pieces available in the studio, and we’ll talk through styling before your session so everything works together.
You’re also welcome to bring something meaningful from home. Sometimes the most personal details make the most interesting portraits.
-
No worries. When you book your newborn session, we’ll plan around your due date and adjust once baby actually arrives. Babies rarely care about our calendars, so there’s flexibility built into the process.
Just let me know when your little one is here, and we’ll take it from there.
Little details,
beautifully kept.
The way you look. The way they fit in your arms. The people you are together right now. Your portrait experience turns this fleeting time into something lasting.
Portrait experiences begin at $400, with collections purchased separately.
